July 18, 2011 Gananoque

I woke early and thought I would get up and walk the long distance to the marina office where wifi is available. Then thunder started, then rain and soon it was 8:00. About 8:30 I packed up my computer and walked to the marina office. As soon as I got there I realized that I did not have the notes I needed to post the blog. So I walked the long distance back to Excalibur to get them.

As I was finishing the blog update Kerry came walking down the dock with 2 bags of laundry. Both machines were open so she lucked out again. I thought it would be smart for me to bike to town and get a haircut while she waited for the laundry to finish. However, both barbershops are closed on Monday. I got back just in time to help her carry the clean laundry back.

We decided to bike to the British Pub for fish and chips for lunch, and Lew joined us. We all enjoyed fish and chips, and of course, a Guinness. We did some shopping after that in the hardware store, gift shops, 2 groceries and at Canadian Tire, my favorite store. I was able to find a nice Gananoque t-shirt. Kerry took the groceries back to Excalibur while Lew and I went to the Playhouse Theatre for tickets to Tuesday night’s performance of The Drowning Girls. We decided to stay in Gananoque for an extra night, and eliminate one nights anchoring before Alexandria Bay. Most of my first day here I spent dealing with the seaweed issue so it was a non-day from a tourist perspective.

It was about 4:00 when I returned to Excalibur. I spent some time studying the charts and the course through the Canadian Middle Channel to Grenadier Island where we plan to anchor Wednesday night. I got out the super glue and repaired both of the grills on my cockpit speakers. One had a piece broken off while the other had two cracked grill bars. They came out pretty good and will last until someone steps on them again.

After cocktails we ate a barbequed chicken that we purchased earlier while shopping. It was very good. It was a pretty night so we sat out and enjoyed it. A little rain came by and we took the picture of the blue heron on the floating break wall of the marina. We were tired and called it a day about 8:30.

Jim and Jola will be meeting us in Alexandria Bay to which we are looking forward. Jim is bringing more Welland fenders, a new Sear's battery charger and a big batch of Rosemary's cookies! I will ask him to write the blog one day during his visit. Jola takes great pictures so we will try to get her to post some for us. Bring your cable to connect to a pc, Jola.
