July 15, 2011 Beaurivage Island

After I did the blog update I decided to charge my camera battery for two days of anchored picture taking. The charger was no where to be found. Unable to sleep through the commotion of me ripping everything apart, Kerry joined the search. Still no success. While I can’t believe that we will not find it at some time, I called a Kingston camera store to see if one was available. It was – for $79. The choice was to pay 1/3 of what the camera cost for a charger or risk not being able to use my new camera for the rest of the trip. I sucked it up and decided to buy a new one. The shop owner made it easier for me. He gave me a 10% discount and said if I found the other in a week or two I could send this one back for a refund. What a nice guy! So far, the old one has not appeared.

We left Kingston about 10:15. We passed Wolfe Island where 80 wind turbines are located. We motored the 14.2 nm and arrived at Beaurivage Island at 12:30. It was really a pretty trip through the Bateau Channel. Some of the homes and grounds are spectacular. Beaurivage Island was our favorite anchorage on our last trip. A sign on a park calls the harbor Beau Rivage which we think is a classier way to spell it, but that is not what is on our charts.

Kerry made a great breakfast on the way – a bacon and poached egg sandwich with a Bloody Mary. The smell of the bacon cooking was just increased the anticipation. Once anchored, we enjoyed a dark rum and tonic cocktail.

I decided to go fishing while Kerry worked on a special project for Anne. I actually caught three fish with a little artificial minnow. I kept 2, then later decided one was too small. I cleaned the one fish thinking Lew would be proud of me since it is one of my least favorite things to do. Unfortunately it is obvious I need another lesson as I ended up with a filet the size of a French fry.

I use these little plastic minnows that have a clear plastic tail secured to the body by a small clear plastic section. The little perch up here grab the tail and eventually tear it off making the lure worthless. The water is so clear I can often see them and pull the lure away from them as fast as I can. They just make little tugs on the line. When a good size fish hits there are no little tugs.

I took a shower on the stern before dinner and managed again to get the water to stop leaking. I hope that I can continue my success with that for a couple more weeks when our anchoring will be mostly over.

Kerry continued her cooking success with a wonderful shrimp linguine dinner with baby spinach and romaine grated cheese. She also made asparagus and Gretchen contributed a tomato salad. Before dinner Kerry and Gretchen concocted some long island ice teas that turned out pretty good. We sat in the cockpit and enjoyed the sunset until the mosquitoes started to appear. Lew and Gretchen then rowed “home”. Kerry said she may go fishing with me tomorrow.
