August 10, 2011 Port Colborne

We decided to stay in Port Colborne today. The forecast was for too much wind to go west, and it materialized. Even the birds in the lagoon did not want to go into the water, just too breezy. As I type this (Wed. afternoon) the wind is really howling and the waves are coming over the break wall.

I got up at 7:00 AM, having survived the storm from the evening before. After I perked coffee I started to update the blog. This took me a lot of time because of the details involved and because my computer loads pictures so slowly. I finished about 9:30 and told Kerry I would be ready to go to town shortly. This message got her away from her Sudoku and out of bed. When I popped out of the cabin Gretchen offered me a plate of pancakes which I gladly accepted.

Kip had walked to town earlier in order to get his glasses fixed. They had fallen out of his pocket yesterday and broken. Luckily, Kerry found them on the deck before they went over board.

About 11:00 the girls and I walked to town. Kip and Lew biked to town. We met up for lunch at the Neptune restaurant, which was delicious. This is a Greek restaurant with a very diverse menu. Everyone was able to find something to their liking. After lunch, the boys rode back to the boats, the girls went shopping and I walked around the canal sightseeing.

Kerry and the ladies returned about 4:58 to the boats. I know this because I told Kip I would wait until 5:00 to make my martini. She just knew when to come home. It was too windy to grill on the boats so we decided to have heavy appetizers for dinner. Gretch made a salad along with a spicy hummus dish while Kerry made a wasabi cream cheese treat and meat roll ups using Kip's wraps. It was a nice change and we all had a great time eating and laughing on Windchaser. Lew made coffee after dinner and we all turned in after that.

Our neighbor Dave called when were in bed and said his wife and our friend, Maureen, was in the hospital again, for a lung problem. We were saddened to hear that. Anne called too and gave us an update on her day and the puppies.

We agreed to meet at 8:00 tomorrow to decide what to do in the morning. Choices are to go to Port Dover, or try to go, or perhaps bail out if the seas are too rough and go to Port Maitland, or wait until Friday and go to Dover. The issue is the strong west wind that is expected to continue until Friday.
